Thousands of New Jersey seniors have the opportunity to receive free, in-person assistance through the state’s new property tax relief application this week. The New Jersey Division of Taxation is holding several filing assistance events in July where residents can get one-on-one assistance with filing the new PAS-1 application for Senior Freeze, ANCHOR, and Stay NJ benefits.

Starting this year, eligible homeowners use a single PAS-1 application to apply for three major property tax relief programs: Senior Freeze, ANCHOR, and Stay NJ, instead of the separate applications used in years past. However, there are three important dates coming up this week that citizens should be aware of.

1. Crestwood Village Installation Ceremony: July 14

Located in the heart of Manchester Township, this event provides the perfect opportunity for residents of the Whiting area to receive direct guidance. Representatives from the Division of Taxation will be on site to help you navigate the 2025 New Jersey property tax exemption application process from start to finish. You should arrive early with all necessary financial documents, including your Social Security number and proof of property tax paid, to ensure a smooth filing experience. This particular workshop is an excellent choice for those who prefer face-to-face assistance over online submission portals or paper submissions.

2. Greater East Greenwich Application Help: July 15

If you are located in the southern part of the state, head to the East Greenwich Senior Citizens Committee event on July 15. This workshop is dedicated to helping seniors and residents with disabilities understand their eligibility for the current New Jersey property tax exemption cycle. Organizers have simplified the process, ensuring that attendees can receive assistance with both electronic and paper applications at the same time. Since these events are well attended, arriving early when the doors open at 1:00 pm is a smart strategy to avoid long wait times.

3. Lakewood Square Filling Event: July 15

Also taking place on July 15, the Lakewood Township event provides another important window of support for seniors in the Ocean County area. By partnering with local top service organizations, the state ensures that New Jersey property tax exemption information reaches those who need it most. Whether you’re applying for a Senior Freeze to stabilize your taxes or an ANCHOR benefit to offset rising costs, this event provides the technical support you need to get it done. Staff will be ready to refer you to the PAS-1 form, which serves as a “one-stop shop” for determining eligibility for all government tax savings programs.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

There are a few things you should bring to your appointment to get tax help in New Jersey. Be sure to bring:

  • A government-issued photo ID
  • Social Security number
  • Proof of income for 2025
  • Property tax information
  • Any government tax documents you have received
  • Your PAS-1 application if you have already started it

This is a series of filing assistance events scheduled throughout New Jersey through September as the Division of Taxation helps residents fill out the new property tax relief application.

Filing early can also speed up payments. According to New Jersey guidelines, eligible Senior Freeze refunds are expected to begin in mid-July for first-time applicants, while ANCHOR benefits are expected later in the fall and Stay NJ payments are scheduled after that.

Maximizing Your Hard-earned Financial Profits

The real value of these state-sponsored workshops is in the clarity they provide about your eligibility for the many layers of New Jersey property tax exemptions. By combining Senior Freeze, ANCHOR, and the new Stay NJ benefit, many seniors can see a significant reduction in their total housing costs.

Even if you don’t qualify for the entire program, attending one of these free events can help determine what benefits you qualify for and prevent common application mistakes. With the new PAS-1 combining multiple programs into one application, self-help can be an easy way to maximize your property tax relief.

Remember that filing deadlines are tight, and relying on personal support is an excellent way to prevent common mistakes that can lead to delays in your payment. Your home should be a place of comfort, not a source of financial anxiety, so take advantage of these amenities while they are available in your community.
